May 28,2008
Dear Mount Vernon Parents,
We will be holding the third annual "Helping Hands Day" on Thursday, September 11, 2008. This is a
school-wide day of service during which all Mount Vernon students, along with faculty and staff, will
reach out of the classrooms and into the community. Preschool through third grade students will
participate in projects held on campus while fourth through twelfth grade students volunteer with Atlanta based non-profit organizations on site. Our goal is to provide support to our community while teaching our students the value of selflessness, compassion and responsibility.
In years past, Mount Vernon volunteers
have provided support to nursing homes,
nature preserves,
emergency shelters, food banks, children's hospitals and donation centers just to name a few. By
contributing to such a wide variety of causes we are able to have a far-reaching
impact on many different
causes in our local community. Our students will learn that even small hands can make a big difference!
We are looking forward to this day of community outreach and welcome you to participate as well! If
you are interested in volunteering, please contact both of us and, per your request, we will either assign
you to your child's class project or will include you in one of our parent volunteer activities. Over the
summer, please feel free to gather some toiletries for the hygiene kits some of the students will be making
as one of the Helping Hands day projects.
All interested volunteers will receive further information via email so please be sure that you provide your
current, preferred email address in your response in order for us to reach you with updates. If you have
any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you,
.
