ABOUT US : Fast Facts


  • Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, a Christian college preparatory school, is located at 471 Mt. Vernon Highway, NE, Atlanta, GA 30328 in the heart of Sandy Springs.
  • Founded in 1972, the school is a community dedicated to academic excellence, physical development and spiritual enrichment for students in the three-year-old program through 12th grade. Grounded in Christian values, we seek to develop leaders who will use their unique abilities to think, serve and live their lives with wisdom and moral integrity.
  • Mount Vernon’s nine-acre Lower School Campus serves Preschool through sixth grade students and includes classrooms, science and art labs, gymnasium, cafeteria, performance venue, and chapel.
  • The school’s new 30-acre Glenn Campus, less than 100 yards away, serves Middle and Upper School students (grades 7-12). The campus currently consists of a 4-story building as well softball, baseball, and football/soccer fields. The state-of-the-art building houses spacious and naturally-lit classrooms, science labs, art studios, choral and band rooms, cafeteria, gymnasium that also serves as a performance venue, art gallery space, and a media center that overlooks a beautiful wooded ravine.
  • The Glenn Campus building adheres to the U.S. Green Building Council’s sustainable building principles and boasts many “green” components, such as a thermally reflective roof, bamboo gymnasium floor, and a unique geothermal system to heat and cool the building.
  • Mount Vernon Presbyterian School offers instruction to students in the following grades: Three-Year-Olds, Prekindergarten, Young Fives, and kindergarten through twelfth grade.
  • Total enrollment for 2007-2008 is 850.
  • Average Class Sizes:
    Three-Year-Olds – 14
    Prekindergarten and Young Fives – 15
    Kindergarten – 17
    First – Eighth Grades – 18-20
    Ninth – Twelfth Grades – 18-22

  • Mount Vernon’s first graduation is scheduled for May 20, 2008.
  • Average Student to Teacher Ratio: 10 to 1
  • Academic support is provided by qualified teachers to meet varied learning styles of students at all grade levels within the framework of the school day.
  • Forty percent (40%) of Mount Vernon’s faculty and staff have or are working on advanced degrees.
  • Ninety percent (90%) of the Upper School teaching faculty have or are working on advanced degrees. Five hold doctorate degrees.
  • The Glenn Campus is a completely wireless campus, and all Upper School students purchase a laptop computer as they begin their ninth grade year to use throughout their Upper School experience for daily learning and research.
  • The Mustangs compete at the varsity level in athletics in GISA Region 1-AAA. Middle School Mustangs compete in the North Atlanta Metro League (NAML).
  • Eleven percent of the student population includes students from Asian, African-American, Hispanic, and multicultural backgrounds.
