LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARY : Overview

Mount Vernon's Lower School library is located in the Activities Building on the Lower School Campus and serves preschool through sixth grade students. Classes are scheduled weekly. Listening skills are honed as kindergarten, first and second grade students experience story telling of rich children's classics. Beginning in the third grade, students are taught research skills, utilizing the Big Six guidelines. Mount Vernon's media databases are also taught. Sixth grade students attend the library on a needs basis orchestrated through a cooperative effort between the teachers and the media specialist.

Many opportunities exist for volunteering in the Lower School library. Parents or other family members of students who would like to volunteer should contact Judy Weathers at weathersjc@bellsouth.net.
Parents are encouraged to visit the library for check-out as well.

Sincerely,

Amanda Stavropoulos
